Boutique, organic and biodynamic

Vynfields owners John Bell and Kaye McAulay are passionate about producing premium pinot noir and riesling wines, handcrafted using traditional methods from their boutique organic/biodynamic vineyard.

A landmark in Martinborough, Vynfields striking two storey villa was originally the historic Maranui homestead in Lyall Bay, Wellington.  It was moved – in five pieces – over the Rimutaka Hills, and  John and Kaye have enjoyed restoring it . Kaye had loved the building from a young age, and its profile of the homestead appears on their wine labels. Self-contained vineyard accommodation is also available. 

Vynfields is a fully certified organic vineyard to Bio-Gro New Zealand standards.  Sprays and fertilizers are based on seaweed extracts, fish meal, calcium and the Bio-Dynamic preparations.  All vineyard and winery activities are performed by hand.  Vines are cane pruned in winter time, leaf plucking occurs in late spring to ensure exposure of the fruit and protection from fungal diseases, fruit thinning, hand picking with careful bunch and berry selection.  Winemaking practices use hand plunging, gravity transfer and minimum pumping.
