Aotearoa / New Zealand is a nation of migrants, with today’s forbears, both Maori and Pakeha, often undertaking heroic voyages in difficult conditions to reach these shores. This is the company’s inspiration and Te Herā - the sail - represents those journeys.
Te Hera is a small family business dedicated to the production of handcrafted wines. Focusing on a very small range of wines in which they strive to achieve excellence, aiming to produce complex multi-layered wines that reflect both old world grape varieties and the new world soils and conditions the grapes were grown in.
The vineyard and winery are located in Te Muna Rd, Martinborough, and was the first commercial vineyard planted there. It is pleasing to the owners to see their bold decision endorsed by the number of high-profile neighbours now establishing themselves in this emerging area..
The Te Herā owners believe that a vineyard and winery are a living biological system, and that the winegrower’s role in both vineyard and the winery is one of nurturance. They seek to have the quality intrinsic to the grape and vintage express itself in the wine.
