Fine fruit quality through sustainable management

The vineyard is a family owned boutique vineyard of 11 acres, focusing on quality rather than quantity. It is located on the ancient alluvial Martinborough river terraces made up of deep, free-draining gravel overlaid with a gravely silt loam.

The home block carries pinot noir, pinot gris and gewürztraminer, with sauvignon blanc sourced from another local vineyard. Particular care has been taken to select varietal clones for the highest possible quality wine, and all plants are grafted onto Phylloxera resistant rootstocks.

Haythornthwaite Wines aims to produce high quality award winning wines. Our wine philosophy begins in the vineyard: quality wines can only be made from the best fruit we can grow, through sustainable vineyard management. All vineyard work is done by hand, including frost protection with hand-lit burners in the dead of night, and black lock-out netting to protect the harvest from birds.

Haythornthwaite also offers self-contained accommodation available all year round for short and long stays.
