A small family-owned and single block vineyard, Big Sky makes limited production handcrafted wines. After living in France, the owners pursued their long-held ambition of making world class, hand crafted wines, which give true expression to the character of their place.
They believe the Te Muna valley is a very special place. On the high alluvial terrace of Martinborough's Huangarua River, its deep gravels, low rainfall, warm days, cool nights and low yields make it ideal for growing pinot noir, reflected in their complex and expressive wines.
The Big Sky brand is redolent of Te Muna Valley's cloudless summer days and clear nights with “stars nearly close enough to touch”. The owners aim to capture the full character of the vineyard in their wines.
