Martinborough. A State of Wine.

Martinborough is small and perfectly formed at the foot of New Zealand’s North Island, just 1.5 hours drive from Wellington, the capital city. The alchemy of topography, geology, pure air and human effort has created the perfect state for wine.
The leafy wine village is home to some of New Zealand’s most successful winemakers. Many came in pursuit of Pinot Noir, but there is much, much more.
You don’t have to live here to belong here
Enjoying the wine of Martinborough is about genuinely appreciating the years of effort invested into each vintage.
Belonging to Martinborough starts with wanting to discover the region, to explore and embrace what makes this place so special.
Once you have been here, a small part of your heart will always remain.
A Wine Village
A wine town with roots in the soil - a real wine village. We are the only wine village in New Zealand - old world charm in the new world.
From the village square, you can walk to some 30 vineyards, or grab a bike and cycle through them.
A friendly town with the square at the centre of everything and with a lively café and restaurant scene. The streets are laid out in the shape of the Union Jack (every road leads to the centre), with streets named after places John Martin, who founded the town in 1872, travelled to. It is those very same overseas destinations the town is now exporting wines back to.
