Classic Pie wins again at Toast Martinborough At Ata Rangi, Ruth Pretty’s classic Steak and Kidney Pie was ruled supreme by Beef & Lamb competition judges, chef Rex Morgan (Boulcott Street Bistro, Wellington) and well-known food writer Annabelle White.  It was the fourth time Ruth has won the Toast Martinborough competition.

“The dish was almost impossible to fault,” said Annabelle.  “It was a simple beef pie but from the pastry to the delicious savoury filling and accompanying relish you could tell it had been thoughtfully constructed from start to finish.

The nine entrants were assessed presentation, composition, meat cookery, taste and suitability for the occasion.
