Martinborough wines featured in the innovative $25-$35 lunch and dinner menus, with participating wineries reporting good sales, customers enjoying new brands and enhanced relationships with restaurants.
All the special events showcasing Martinborough wines with Wellington food sold out, such as the Martinborough Chef’s Tour (by helicopter, with Bisque on Bolton’s Steve Morris), Martin Bosley’s City Market Wine and Dine bringing local providores and winemakers together, and the sheer pleasure of handmade chocolates matched with wine.
Long-time supporter Moore Wilson Fresh saluted the people who produce the great foods and wines in our region, including most Martinborough winemakers – with a great tasting event in their carpark.
“We were delighted to be involved,” said Wines From Martinborough General Manager Rachael Fletcher.
“The festival was immensely positive for wines from this region, and it was fantastic to see the huge support from Wellington food and wine lovers for “their” wine district.
“Ideas are already surfacing to make the 2010 Wellington on a Plate festival even better, and promoting it in Australia as a delicious short break. With our wines becoming more widely known and available in Australia, the connection is ideal for the region,” she commented.
